The Military Staff Archives comprises 163 files received from the WEU military staff in June 2001 after their dissolution and transfer of their functions to the European Union.
This section has been split in tree sub-sections: chrono, Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation Systems (Bices) and intelligence section files in order to respect the authenticity of the files.
The chrono files are mainly chronological series of all the documents produced by the former Planning cell and later Military Staff authorities like Director Planning Cell, Deputy Director, Executive Officer, and its sections: CIS, intelligence, coordination, plans, operations, logistic and the situation centre.
Bices files comprises all the relevant WEU and NATO documents concerning the installation, operation and termination at WEU of the Bices, including documents for its groups:
- BIUG - BICES Intelligence Users Group
- BTWG -BICES Technical Working Group
- BSWG - BICES Security Working Group
- BSAB - BICES Security Accreditation Board
- BTSC - BICES Team Steering Committee
- BICES Board of Directors.
The Intelligence Section Files are mainly related with Space and Satcen activities including the Geographical Information System (GIS).
The files contain the metadata, a content analysis of the information in each file with mention of the more relevant documents and a series of keywords for research purposes.
Accessible after 30 years, these files can be accessed at the earliest in 2022.
